Tomorrow Never Dies (1997)

Overall Rank-13th

This is definitely Brosnan’s second best portrayal of Bond. There are actually a great number of aspects I like about this movie. It used to be ranked higher, but upon increased viewing of older Bond films, it fell down the list. Still, it really is a great Bond film, and Brosnan is still playing the part well in this second outing.

The villain is one of my favorites and also one of my least favorites at the same time. I believe Jonathon Pryce was a great choice for the main villain, Elliot Carver; however, the main plot involving world media is not the most intriguing. Stamper is also a particularly efficient killing machine on par with Red Grant from From Russia with Love.

This film has probably the one Bond girl most equal to James Bond. Wai Lin is not only beautiful, but a good match in skill with Bond. The motorcycle scene mid-film is one of my favorite Bond scenes.

I particularly enjoy the parking garage scene as well. Though a remote-controlled (regular size) car seems slightly far-fetched, the scene is action packed and well shot. The many features of this car make this scene particularly exciting.

After the motorcycle sequence, I feel the film loses some of its pace. I would rank this lower likely because the final half is not as exciting to me as the first half.

Overall I would highly recommend this for its great action sequences; however, the last half is much less exciting in my opinion.
