The debate of whether skateboarding should be in the Olympics is changing into a discussion of when skateboarding is going to be a competition in the Olympics?
Skateboarding is different than longboarding in that it takes a hell of a lot more skill. Longboarding is more of a relaxing cruise where as skateboarding is an intense mixture of jumps, grinds and injuries.
Some skaters are worried that forcing skateboarding into the Olympics will somehow change the individualistic and independent sport.
On July 19, 2004 skaters from all over the world meet in Dortmund Germany to talk about forming an International Skateboarding Federation. The skaters agreed and the federation was formed.
Entering skateboarding into the Olympics is a long arduous process, but there are lots of people trying to do so.

I’ve been riding my new board around Stillwater a lot lately. The other night I was leaving the library and jumped on my board to head home. I was riding past a group of girls when all of a sudden I hit a giant crack in the middle of the path. I went flying forwards and landed very awkwardly on the pavement. It was a very embarrassing moment and the girls only added to my embarrasment when they stated laughing at me. I grabbed my board and swiftly skated home with my head hanging. My pride was hurt more than my body.

My board has finally arrived! It arrived early Monday morning. I found my dog chewing on a brown box on the porch and to my surprise it was my longboard. I unfortunately could not take it out immediately because there was a monsoon in Stilllwater at the time. However the weather forecast looks promising, so I should get out there soon.

The other day I was skating on my roommates board with a friend of mine. It was about 2:30 a.m. and the streets of Stillwater were empty. My friend and I decided to skate down Miller Avenue to Shortcakes to grab a bite to eat. We hadn’t been skating on the streets for more that three minutes before we saw the red and blue lights flashing behind us. I was shocked and a bit nervous that a cop was pulling us over. All we were doing was skateboarding. We weren’t incredibly drunk or anything, but we had downed a couple at Stonewall earlier that night. The officer asked for identification, but my friend and I decided not to carry our IDs on us before we left. The officer had to call in the information we gave him and when he realized we had no warrants and we were breaking no law he told us to stop skating on the streets and go home. I felt like my rights had been violated and the police were excessively exercising their powers.

I finally ordered a new board! I ordered a 37.5-inch Sector 9 longboard. Unfortunately because I live in Middle America shipping takes about two weeks. I will post more details and pictures as soon as it arrives.

MY LONGBOARD WAS STOLEN!!! It is a heartbreaking split for me. My 37-inch Sector 9 longboard was given to me from a friend in Florida. I have a lot of good memories on that board and it will be sorely missed. However, I was lucky enough to stumble across a very rich girl last semester, whom is now my girlfriend, and she has promised to buy me a new board. The new board should be in the mail soon.

I’ve come to the conclusion that surfing in Oklahoma is impossible. So I must resort to the next best thing. Longboarding! The difference between surfing and skating is obvious, but the similarities may not be so. Cruising along a a slow curling wave can be imitated by simply using a skateboard and a steep hill. The consequences unfortunately are often different. Falling into a waist high wave is much more pleasant than falling on are hard, rough, concrete road.
