British Envasion! …..or at least I hope so!
I have noticed a trend where almost all my new favorite musicians are from across the pond. This could be just a music phase I am going through, or maybe there is just a lot of good music coming out of Britain right now. Think of the most honored musicians of the past century: The Beatles, The Who, The Clash, and The Rolling Stones. All from Britain!
There are a few new artist that are making a huge wave with me as well as the rest of the UK: the Kooks, James Morrison and an interestingly enough named band Get Cape. Wear Cape. Fly. All of these artists are huge over in Britain, and they are barely known over here. But I believe all are taking an attempt at a debut in North America.
The Kooks is a band out of Brighton in the UK and are with the major record label Virgin Records. They are very punk/modern rock that is probably influenced by The Beatles and The Clash. The lead singer has crazy curly hair and a pretty thick accent. I can tell he is probably pretty entertaining in a live show.
James Morrison is an artist out of Cornwall and is signed with the major UK label Polydor. His sound is soul/rock/acoustic with quite an amazing raspy voice. He is like the John Mayer of Britain, and all the ladies love him!
Get Cape. Wear Cape. Fly is a band out of Southend, Essex UK and they are with Atlantic records. They are an acoustic/electronic/indie group with an interesting voice attached to them. The lead singer is not a very technical one, but has a powerful voice. I am still trying to figure out where they got their name!
I encourage everyone to go check out these artist’s MySpace sites. Give their tracks a good listen! They are headed to America so give them your support. Plus, it would be cool if you could say you knew them when!
